Abhyasa, or practice, is an essential component of all progress in life; even more essential for spiritual sciences. Yoga is a journey of understanding your nature, of exploring yourself, of understanding your pains – their origin, extent and ways to overcome them – to move to a place of peace. While it can be beneficial and catalytic to learn at the hands of an experienced and caring teacher, it is absolutely essential to create self-practice routines to be able to personally experience the power of asanas, pranayama or meditation. Self-practice is by itself meditative and has the capability to produce outstanding results for you. In my opinion, self-practice is as important as finding and learning from an experienced Guru.
